Welcome to Car Hire Guernsey. These Terms of Service outline the rules for using our website and vehicle rental offerings. Your use of our services indicates acceptance of these terms.

Rental Terms

All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which you will receive upon booking confirmation or at the time of vehicle collection. This document outlines specific terms, conditions, insurance coverage, charges, and your obligations regarding the rental. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.

Eligibility Criteria

Rental Requirements in Guernsey

  • To hire a vehicle, you must be at least 21 years old, although age restrictions may differ based on the vehicle type, with extra fees applicable for drivers under 25. You must possess a valid driving licence suitable for the chosen vehicle, held for the minimum duration outlined in the Rental Agreement. Valid identification and proof of your current address are required, along with payment details and a security deposit. Please meet any further criteria stated in the Rental Agreement.

3. Reservations and Payments

  • Reservations can be completed via our website, by telephone, or directly at our Guernsey office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. The remaining payment, along with a security deposit, is usually collected at the time of vehicle pickup. All prices are displayed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT when relevant. We accept various major credit and debit cards, with transactions managed securely by trusted payment processors.

4. Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off

  • At the time of collection, you are required to examine the vehicle carefully and report any pre-existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be completed and signed at this point. It is important to return the vehicle in the same condition as when it was collected, accounting for normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and charged accordingly. Please return the vehicle with the same fuel level as when it was collected; refueling charges will apply for vehicles returned with less fuel. Late returns may result in additional fees, so please contact us promptly if you anticipate a delay. You are responsible for any parking fines, traffic violations, or other charges incurred during your rental, plus an administration fee.

Insurance and Liability Terms

  • All car rentals include basic third-party insurance. Comprehensive coverage details and excess amounts can be found in your Rental Agreement. You may have the option to purchase additional insurance to lower your financial liability. It is advisable to review these options thoroughly. You will be liable for any damage or loss up to the insurance excess, except when additional insurance is in place. Any damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violation of these Terms remains your responsibility, regardless of insurance coverage.

6. Changes and Cancellations

Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice given. For precise information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Please be aware that late cancellations or no-shows could incur additional charges.

7. Restricted Activities

Prohibited vehicle uses:

  • The vehicle must not be used for any unlawful activities. This includes participation in racing, rallying, off-roading, or any other dangerous maneuvers. Transporting hazardous materials is also prohibited. Sub-letting the vehicle or permitting unauthorized drivers is not allowed. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden. The vehicle should only be used for its intended purpose and within designated passenger and weight limits. Driving outside the specified geographical area requires prior approval.

Breaching these terms may lead to rental cancellation and extra fees.

8. Liability Restrictions

To the fullest extent allowed by Guernsey law, Car Hire accepts no liability for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims will not exceed the total amount you paid for the rental in the prior 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury due to negligence or fraud.

9. Legal Framework

These Terms are governed by the laws of Guernsey. Disputes will fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of Guernsey's courts.

10. Modifications to Terms

We may update these Terms at any time. Changes take effect once posted on our website. Continued use of our services indicates acceptance of the revised Terms.
