Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which you will receive upon booking confirmation or at the time of vehicle collection. This document outlines the specific terms, conditions, insurance coverage, applicable charges, and your responsibilities related to the rental. In cases of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Vehicle Rental Requirements
- To rent a vehicle in Guernsey, drivers must be a minimum of 21 years old, although age restrictions may differ depending on the vehicle type, with potential extra fees for those under 25. A valid, full driving licence appropriate for the vehicle category is required, along with valid identification and proof of current address. Payment information and a security deposit must also be provided, alongside any other requirements outlined in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payment Process
- Reservations can be arranged via our website, over the phone, or directly at our Guernsey location. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. Full payment along with a security deposit is usually required at the time of vehicle pick-up. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT when applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, ensuring secure processing through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of collection, it is important to conduct a thorough inspection of the vehicle and report any pre-existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be prepared and must be signed by both parties. When returning the vehicle, it should be in the same condition as it was collected, except for normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and charged accordingly. Ensure that the vehicle is returned with the same fuel level as at collection; refueling fees will apply if the vehicle is returned with less fuel. Late returns may lead to additional charges, so please contact us promptly if you expect to return the vehicle late. You are accountable for any parking fines, traffic violations, or other charges accrued during the rental period, along with an administrative fee.
5. Insurance and Responsibility
- All rentals include basic third-party insurance, with comprehensive coverage details and excess amounts outlined in the Rental Agreement. You may have the option to purchase additional insurance to lower your financial liability. It is advisable to review these options thoroughly. You remain responsible for any damage or loss up to the insurance excess, except where additional coverage applies. Damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violations of these Terms falls under your responsibility, regardless of insurance status.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice given. For precise information, consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or no-shows could incur additional charges.
Prohibited Activities
Prohibited vehicle uses:
- The vehicle must not be used for any unlawful activities. This includes racing, rallying, off-roading, or engaging in other dangerous pursuits. Transporting hazardous materials is prohibited. Sub-leasing the vehicle or permitting unauthorized drivers is not allowed. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden. The vehicle should only be used for its intended purposes, and exceeding passenger or weight limits is not permitted. Additionally, driving outside the specified geographical boundaries without prior consent is not acceptable.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental termination and extra fees.
Liability Limitations
To the fullest extent permitted by Guernsey law, Car Hire will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, arising from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims will not exceed the amount you paid for the rental in the previous 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury resulting from negligence or for fraudulent actions.
Governing Law in Guernsey
These Terms are governed by Guernsey law. Any disputes will fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of Guernsey's courts.
10. Amendments to Terms
We reserve the right to amend these Terms at any time. Changes take effect immediately upon posting on our website. Continued use of our services indicates acceptance of the revised Terms.
